I always thought looking for a job would only include scouring the internet and sifting through countless job sites for hours at a time. However, this isn’t the case at all anymore. The wave of social media has made surfing the Web more efficient and even fun. In the past few months, I’ve found that utilizing today’s social media is one of the best ways to get yourself out there and ahead in the job hunt.
Before college, I didn’t even know what social media was. Now, almost four years later, I’m on Facebook connecting with past colleagues, following businesses on Twitter, updating my LinkedIn profile and blogging whenever I get a chance. All of these outlets are also a good way to find out about jobs and connect with past and potential coworkers. Just by using these online tools, I have been able to do things that I never imagined when job hunting, like friend request someone who just interviewed me or ask for someone to recommend me right on my profile.
I know job hunting isn’t going to be easy over the next several months, but social media makes my life so much easier by allowing me to network and stay connected with people and companies. I can’t recommend it enough because it can only help you when your on the hunt.
