When do you excel?
For me, it’s when I’m challenged.
Challenging work can expose the kind of employee you really are and it can also make you adopt an entirely different work ethic. A challenge can not only motivate you, but also make you take deeper ownership of your work, which is good for both you and your company.
Conversely, it can be hard to produce outstanding work when you’re tasked with easy or mundane assignments. Not being challenged can make you lose your passion quickly and, as an effect, make you only produce ‘good enough’ work that you hope to hand off quickly.
But when you’re given a project you’ve never done before, or that might be a little too much for you to handle, it can be a great motivator to step up your game and prove yourself.
In essence, challenging work can ignite and sustain a passion for what you do. And once you get through it, you wonder what else you can handle and start to pursue even more.
Challenging work can make you excel and see what you’re made of, revealing your true potential for all to see.
So gladly accept a new challenge, or better yet, ask for one.
